Need a Lift? - Word Reach |

| The Race of Faith |
"Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so
great a cloud of witnesses,
let us lay aside every weight and the sin which so easily ensnares us,
and let us run with
endurance the race that is set before us. Looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher
of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame,
and has
sat down at the right hand of the throne of God."
Hebrews 12:1, 2

Living life as a Christian means walking through each day as if
it were an athletic competition. The scriptures uses terms like: "running the race" and "like a
good soldier," and "keep our eyes on the goal." Some people accept Christ into their lives and
become a Christian, but never see their life of faith as needing training and preparation. They
continue to live their lives the same as they did before accepting Christ only they feel more
confident because they have acquired a security blanket. Oh, they may not say it out loud, but
they act as if they have their ticket to heaven so now they can live anyway they please.
This isn’t biblical and as a matter of fact — it’s dangerous thinking. Life on earth is full of
obstacles and too often we find ourselves in a war zone — dogging bullets. Not physical bullets
but we "dodge" many things that could destroy us. That’s precisely the reason these passages about
athletics and soldier life is in the Bible. We must train ourselves for certain war. The training
begins the minute you accept Christ as your savior, and continues until the day you die. That’s
right. True soldiers continue their training as long as they are in uniform because they never
know when they may get sent to the front.
As we run the "race of Faith" we can borrow the motto from the United States Marines, "simper fi."
Christians must be well trained, always ready, "always faithful."
Prayer of response: |
"Lord, help me to be diligent in my training process. I know I’m sometimes
lazy in my daily devotion and prayer times. I realize how important preparation is and I ask
that you will help me as I strive to be more disciplined and consistent. Thank you for this day
and help me to run the race with courage and dedication to your word of instruction. Amen."
